What This Game Is

You play cartographers for a corporate employer that is, frankly, suspect. The game is about becoming a Path-walker, not already being one.

You play cartographers — people who travel between worlds on behalf of a corporate employer that is, frankly, suspect. You map new realities. You document factions, hazards, and resources. You return with reports for an organization that is too cheerful, has too much paperwork, and almost certainly isn't telling you everything.

Each world is its own world: its own physics, history, religion, culture, technology. One could be a single waiting room. Another could be a galaxy. The worlds are connected by Paths — doorways that take whatever physical form fits the world they're in. A wardrobe in one world. A maintenance hatch behind a vending machine in another. A particular cave at sunset.

Solace calls the network of worlds The Shattered Lands. The name implies a precursor — that something broke once, that the multiverse used to be whole. Whether that's true is one of the questions this game leaves open. (More on that later.)

You are green. You've trained, you've passed your certification, you've maybe walked one or two Paths. Your career is just starting. The campaign is about becoming a Path-walker, not about already being one.
