Distinctive physical fact
The world is mostly grey — sky, water, and land all in the same spectrum of slate, ash, and pale silt. There is colour, but it's muted, washed-out, like a photograph left in sunlight too long. The civilization that lived here had advanced technology — Greywater was once roughly equivalent to mid-21st-century Earth. Something happened. The cities are still there. The infrastructure is mostly still there. The people are not.
Dominant want
To survive. The few thousand humans remaining on Greywater are scattered survivors and their descendants, scraping a living from the ruins of a civilization that ended seventy years ago. Most communities are small (50–400 people), insular, and deeply distrustful of outsiders. They want food, safe water, working medicine, and not to be the next community to disappear.
Relationship to the Paths
Aware and fearful. The Paths exist; the survivors know this; some of them know exactly where the Paths are. They have not used them — partly because they distrust the Paths, partly because they have a cultural sense (probably accurate) that the Paths are connected to whatever caused the Ending. Solace has a small, clandestine outpost — most survivor communities do not know it exists.

Other Paths
Several others exist across Greywater. Most are unmapped. The survivors who know them know of them as warnings.
Greywater — Pocket 19-Omega
Filed by Surveyor R. Kel · four years ago · CLASSIFIED — Senior Surveyors only
Wild Frontier world. Post-industrial ruined. Mid-21st-century-equivalent civilization, ended approximately 70 years ago by undetermined cause. Surviving population estimated at 4,000–8,000, scattered.
Atmosphere: Breathable. Standard gravity. Climate cool, overcast.
Critical protocols: Greywater is under deep restriction. Field deployment requires Authorization Code Alpha-Three or higher. Standard rotation does not apply.
Useful contacts: (Redacted.)
Hazards: Significant and not fully understood. The cause of the local civilization's collapse has not been identified. Solace personnel deploying to Greywater should expect to encounter:
- Hostile survivor communities (caution: most are not hostile by default — verify before engaging)
- Environmental hazards (radiation in some former urban centres; structural collapse in many ruins)
- Unidentified phenomena referred to in survivor culture as "thinning" — events in which space appears to lose integrity in localized zones
